We are happy to invite you to the last seminar of the semester. This week we have Fiona Guinan, a Ph.D. student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, presenting for us on Friday, December 15th, 2023. The seminar will begin at 1:30 PM EDT/EST on the virtual platform Microsoft Teams. The presentation title is: "Genetic analysis of lactation consistency in U.S. Holsteins using temporal variation in daily milk weights".

Speaker Biography: Fiona Louise Guinan graduated from University College Dublin, Ireland with a BSc in Agricultural Science in 2018. Shortly after, Fiona came to the United States and did an internship with the Council on Dairy Cattle Breeding (CDCB) in Bowie, Maryland where she worked on national performance metrics for herds participating in milk recording programs. In 2020, Fiona started her MSc in Quantitative Genetics at the University of Georgia under the supervision of Dr. Daniela Lourenco. Her MSc focused on analyzing changes in genetic and phenotypic trends for U.S. dairy cattle following the implementation of genomic selection. In 2022, Fiona was awarded a Fellowship from CDCB and the National Dairy Herd Information Association (NDHIA) for her Ph.D. studies in dairy genetics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She works with Dr. Kent Weigel and Dr. Francisco Peñagaricano to investigate resilience indicators in U.S. dairy cattle using daily milk weights routinely collected on farms. Fiona was the treasurer and is currently the president of the UW-Madison Animal Science Graduate Student Association.
