This week we are happy to have Sirlene Fernandes Lazaro, a Postdoctoral researcher at the University of Guelph, presenting for us on Friday, October 13th, 2023. The seminar will begin at 1:30 PM EDT/EST on the virtual platform Microsoft Teams. The title of the presentation is: "Genomic studies of milk-related traits in water buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis) based on single-step GBLUP".
Speaker Biography: Sirlene Fernandes Lazaro has a bachelor’s and a master’s in Animal Science from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, and a Ph.D. in Animal Science from the Federal University of Viçosa. She currently holds a postdoctoral fellowship position at the University of Guelph, under the supervision of Dr. Flavio Schenkel, working with genetic evaluation for the survival of Canadian lambs. Sirlene has knowledge and experience in genetics, genomics, animal breeding, and statistical analysis. She worked with quail, pigs, beef cattle, and dairy buffaloes, focusing on random regression models, genomic growth, lactation curves, censored data, and programming in R, Bash, and Fortran. During her Ph.D. she was a visiting student at the University of Zaragoza, Spain. Sirlene worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Sao Paulo State University with a visiting scholarship at Purdue University and as a professor of Genetics and Animal Breeding at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Sao Paulo State University, and Jaguariuna University Center.
