We are happy to have Dr. Steve Larmer, from Bayer Crop Science, presenting for us on Friday, April 17th, 2026. The seminar will begin at 1:30 PM EDT/EST on the virtual platform Microsoft Teams. The presentation title is: “Accelerating genetic gain in crop breeding: How learnings from animal breeding are guiding plant breeding programs”.
 
Speaker Biography: Steve Larmer grew up in Blackstock Ontario, on a farm where his family still runs a dairy farm operation. He got his PhD with Dr. Flavio Schenkel, then spent 9 years at Semex working on genomic research, and as a farmer facing decision support tools rooted in quantitative genetics. For the last 3 years, he has been at Bayer Crop Science, working on tropical corn breeding, and more recently, leading a technical team on breeding target definition and value capture across crops globally. Steve lives in Arthur, ON with his wife and boys, where they run Tullamore Lavender Company and also cash crop 100 acres.
