This week we are happy to have Dr. Ivan Pocrnic, a Researcher at Roslin Institute, University of Edinburgh, presenting for us on Friday, April 12th, 2024. The seminar will begin at 1:30 PM EDT/EST on the virtual platform Microsoft Teams. The presentation title is: “Making big data small and small data big: the story of genomic dimensionality”.

Speaker Biography: My main research interest is developing novel breeding methodologies and tools. This work involves a synergy between theoretical quantitative genetics and practical animal breeding. My main expertise is the application of genomic selection on big datasets for various species (pig, chicken, cattle, etc.) and various models, with an emphasis on single-step genomic prediction. Before starting my research group at the Roslin Institute (University of Edinburgh, UK) last summer, I was a core scientist with Gregor Gorjanc at the Roslin Institute and a postdoc with Ignacy Misztal at the University of Georgia (USA), where I also obtained my PhD. Previously, I worked at the Department for Breeding Value Estimation (Croatian Agricultural Agency) and obtained MSc in Animal Genetics and Breeding and BSc in Agricultural Economics at the University of Zagreb (Croatia).
