We are happy to invite you to the first seminar of the winter semester. This week we have Dr. Dan Hailemariam, Research Associate at the University of Alberta, presenting for us on Friday, January 19th, 2024. The seminar will begin at 1:30 PM EDT/EST on the virtual platform Microsoft Teams. The presentation title is: "Understanding the physiology, identifying biomarkers, and predicting residual feed intake in dairy cows using milk and serum metabolome data".

Speaker Biography: Dr. Dan Hailemariam earned his master's degree in Applied Genetics from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia and his PhD in Molecular Genetics from the University of Bonn, Germany. He began his postdoctoral work at the University of Alberta in September 2011 and joined Livestock Gentec in March 2015. Currently, he is a Research Associate working on dairy cattle research projects related to feed efficiency, acute phase proteins, and methane emissions using multi-omics. His research work is focused on identifying biomarkers and increasing the understanding of hard-to-measure traits to improve their prediction in dairy cattle.
