"Rumination time for the prediction of methane emissions in dairy" [Lucas Lopes]

Speaker Biographies:

Colin Lynch is a PhD candidate at the Center for Genetic Improvement of Livestock (CGIL) at the University of Guelph, working under the advisement of Dr. Christine Baes. Colin grew up in Dublin, Ireland, where he completed his undergraduate degree in Agricultural Science, majoring in Animal Science at University College Dublin in 2018. After completion of his undergraduate degree, Colin joined CGIL in September 2018 to pursue his master's and has been with the group ever since. Colin’s PhD work focuses on incorporating calf disease traits into national genetic evaluations in Canada.

Lucas Lopes obtained his undergraduate degree in Animal Science in 2016 and his master's in Genetics and Animal Breeding in 2019 from Sao Paulo State University in Brazil. During his undergrad, he worked with poultry and meat science and interned for private companies in the Brazilian beef production chain. In his master's, Lucas investigated meat quality parameters and how they affect consumers. Lucas joined CGIL in January 2020 to obtain his PhD under the supervision of Dr. Christine Baes, and as part of the Resilient Dairy Genome Project (RDGP). His thesis focuses on rumination time and its relationship with feed efficiency and methane emissions in first-lactation Canadian Dairy Cattle.
