Details

This week we are happy to have Dr. Cedric Gondro, a professor at Michigan State University, presenting for us on Friday, October 27th, 2023. The seminar will begin at 1:30 PM EDT/EST on the virtual platform Microsoft Teams. The title of the presentation is: "Breed composition with portable sequencing devices … and a bit of AI for genomic prediction and enviromics".
Speaker Biography: Dr. Cedric Gondro is a professor of computational and quantitative genomics in the Department of Animal Science, at Michigan State University, USA. His research focuses on the development of computational methods – particularly Artificial Intelligence – for the optimization of biological problems and genomic prediction using high throughput genomic data and its applications for livestock production. His applied work focuses on genetics of beef quality with a particular interest in the genetics of marbling. Current research projects include the use of Artificial Intelligence methods for feature selection applied to genomic prediction, the use of climate variables and computer vision to increase accuracy of phenotypic prediction in livestock systems, supply chain data integration between farmers and consumers, applications of portable sequencing devices for livestock production and understanding epistasis in the context of linear models.
