This week we are happy to have Dr. Roger Cue, from McGill University, to present for us on Friday March 3rd, 2023. The seminar will begin at 1:30 PM EDT/EST on the virtual platform Microsoft Teams. The title of the presentation is: "Transgenerational effects in dairy cattle?".
Speaker Biography: Dr. Roger Cue graduated from Newcastle-upon-Tyne University with a BSc in agriculture and then completed his PhD at the University of Edinburgh under the supervision of Professor Alan Robertson. He then moved to McGill University and has spent the past 40 years in quantitative genetic research, primarily in dairy cattle, with collaboration with DHAS/PATLQ/Valacta/Lactanet. Dr. Cue is interested in efficiency traits and their correlations with other traits recorded on-farm. He is particularly interested in the use of research results for both genetic improvement and also on-farm management. To this end he developed a model to predict individual heifer body weight and height up to first calving, as a tool to assist producers in monitoring and optimizing growth to calving; this model and software was developed by Valacta and is used as management tool by Lactanet East advisors.
