Speaker Biography:
Michelle Axford is a La Trobe University PhD candidate with the DairyBio group, focusing on the genetics of calf vitality. For DataGene, she contributes to projects that support the growth of heifer genomic testing on a part-time basis. Michelle and her husband own and operate a family dairy farm business based in the Gippsland region of South-East Australia. Michelle is intrigued by the role that genetics plays in improving farm performance. Over the past decade, Michelle has focused on making Australian breeding values more accessible through the Good Bulls strategy, better aligned with farmer and industry expectations and more clearly validated in Australia’s varied dairying environments. In her prior role at DataGene, she led the last two National Breeding Objective reviews and played a key role in the implementation of DataGene’s new genetic evaluation software. Michelle is an active volunteer in local and state sporting and community organisations.
