Speaker Biography:

Véronique Ouellet holds a BSc in agronomy and a MSc in animal sciences from Laval University. To perfect her knowledge, she completed a research fellowship at the Freie Universität in Berlin under Dr. Wolfgang Heuwieser supervision. She then completed a PhD in animal sciences at Laval University aiming at investigating the effects of heat stress in dairy herds of the Province of Quebec. During her doctorate studies she interned for Dr. Victor Cabrera at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Subsequently, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship in lactation physiology and epigenetics at the University of Florida under Drs. Jimena Laporta and Geoff Dahl, before obtaining a professor position in the Department of Animal Sciences at Laval University in September 2020. Dr. Ouellet's current research theme focuses on the interactions between the animal and its pre- and postnatal thermal environment. Her fields of expertise include lactation and stress physiology as well as dairy cattle management and nutrition. Her work has made it possible, among other things, to demystify the effects of heat stress in continental climates, to better understand the impacts of heat stress during the dry period and to establish heat tolerance thresholds in dry cows and calves. Through her research, collaborations, involvement in the agricultural community and extension activities, Dr. Ouellet ultimately wishes to optimize the resilience of livestock to climate change through an applied and collaborative approach.
