We are happy to have with us Dr. Johan Sölkner, a professor of animal breeding and population genetics at University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, to present a special CGIL Seminar on Tuesday April 5th, 2022. The seminar will begin at 3 PM EDT/EST in the ANNU 141 and it will be also available on the virtual platform Microsoft Teams. The title of the presentation is: "Two sides of a genomic coin: methodology for detection of inbreeding depression and heterosis, applied to sperm quality traits in cattle".

Speaker Biography:

Dr. Johann (Hans) Sölkner is a professor of animal breeding and population genetics at University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, in Vienna. Dr. Sölkner has great interest in high tech (genomic) as well as low tech (simple breeding programs, working in developing countries) solutions. Collaborating with many organizations worldwide, such as USDA, EMBRAPA, and INRA, Dr. Sölkner has published more than 300 peer reviewed articles over his career, which led to more that 11,000 citations. He considers the current times great, with so many things to be tested, learned, and better understood.
