Speaker Biography:
Dr. Istvan Rajcan is a Professor in the Department of Plant Agriculture, University of Guelph, Canada. Dr. Rajcan received his Ph.D. in canola breeding and genetics from the University of Guelph, Canada. He has been leading a soybean breeding and genetics program at the University of Guelph since 1998, where he focuses on seed compositional traits (e.g., fatty acids, isoflavones, etc.) for food, nutreaceutical (functional food) and industrial uses. In addition, his research involves exploration of genetic variation for yield and disease resistance traits using exotic germplasm as well as organic soybean breeding using classical genetic and genomic tools. Dr. Rajcan has trained 46 graduate students at masters or Ph.D. level. He is the recipient of several awards including the 2022 Canadian Plant Breeding and Genetics award for his significant contribution to the advancement of Canadian plant agriculture through research in plant breeding and genetics. Dr. Rajcan collaborates widely with Canadian, Chinese, U.S. and European scientists. He has co-edited two books, published 10 book chapters and more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and developed more than 70 soybean cultivars.
