We are very pleased to have Victoria Asselstine and Hannah Sweett, PhD candidates at the University of Guelph, presenting a CGIL Seminar on Friday April 30th, 2021. The seminar will begin at 1:30 PM EDT/EST on the virtual platform Microsoft Teams. The title of the presentation is: “Identification of regulatory elements affecting health and fertility in dairy cattle​​​​​”.

Speaker Biography:
Victoria received a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Biology with a minor in Animal Nutrition in 2016, and a Master’s degree under the supervision of Dr. Angela Cánovas in Animal Genetics in 2018, both from the University of Guelph. Her M.Sc research focused on mastitis resistance in Holstein dairy cows. Victoria is currently a PhD candidate in the Centre for the Genetic Improvement of Livestock under the supervision of Dr. Angela Cánovas. Her current research works on further understanding the genetic mechanism of mastitis resistance in Holstein dairy cows with a focus on regulatory elements.
 
Hannah received her Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics from the University of Guelph in 2017. Upon transferring from her M.Sc in 2019 Hannah began pursuing her PhD in the Centre for Genetic Improvement of Livestock under the supervision of Dr. Angela Cánovas. Her current research is focused on understanding the biological processes and gene networks involved in early pregnancy success of Holstein dairy cows.
