CGIL Seminar W2020- Dr. Leluo Guan

Dr. Dr. Leluo Guan, a Professor at the University of Alberta will present a CGIL Seminar on Friday, February 7th. The seminar will begin at 1:30 PM in room 141 of the Animal Science & Nutrition building. The title of the presentation is: “Defining the impact of host genetics on the rumen microbiome, where we are?”. 

Speaker Biography:

Dr. Guan is currently a Professor at the University of Alberta in the area of functional genomics. She obtained MSc and PhD from Kyoto University of Japan, and has over 20 years of experience in the areas of functional genomics, molecular biology and microbial ecology. Her main areas of research include; elucidation of the molecular mechanisms of host-microbial interactions and host gene expression using a functional genomics approach, the association between gut microbial ecology and feed efficiency, methane emission and gut immunity development in beef and dairy cattle, and the study of the bovine transcriptome, proteome, and non-coding microRNAs and their roles in economically important traits. Her lab has been the first to link the ruminal microbial structure with variation in feed intake, feed efficiency processes, and methane emission. She has also been one of the leading researchers to study the microbial colonization during early life of dairy calves and its impact on long terms animal health. To date, Dr. Guan has published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers and is currently supervising 3 PDFs, 5 PhD and 4 MSc students.
