Speaker Biography:

Mariana completed her B.Sc. in Animal Science at Sao Paulo State University, Brazil. She first came to Guelph in 2014 for an internship in the Poultry Welfare group under the supervision of Dr. Tina Widowski. In 2015, still with Dr. Widowski, she started an M.Sc. in the Animal Welfare and Behaviour program and transferred to the doctoral program in 2017. For her research, Mariana subjected five genetic lines of laying hens to different prenatal stress models (maternal stress and egg manipulation) and analyzed their effects on the development, behaviour, and stress response of the offspring. She will be presenting the most significant findings of her study.
