This week we are happy to have Dr. Ricardo Ventura, assistant professor at the University of Sao Paulo, presenting for us on Friday, December 8th, 2023. The seminar will begin at 1:30 PM EDT/EST on the virtual platform Microsoft Teams. The presentation title is: "Is feature extraction crucial in determining marbling scores in beef cattle through the application of machine learning methods ?".
Speaker Biography: Dr. Ricardo Ventura completed his master's and Ph.D. in Animal Breeding and Genetics at the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil. He then moved to the University of Guelph to work on the implementation of genomic selection in Canadian coloured dairy breeds as a postdoctoral researcher with Dr. Flavio Schenkel. Following this, he worked as a genomicist at AgSights (formerly BIO) for seven years and concurrently assumed the role of Adjunct Professor at CGIL in 2013. Presently, Dr. Ventura holds the position of Professor at the University of São Paulo in Brazil. He is responsible for different projects in the fields of Cattle Genomics and Precision Phenotyping.
