Speaker Biography:
Dr. de Koning has been a professor in the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) since 2010. He has had academic leadership roles, including the Head of Section, Deputy Head of Department, Vice Dean, and currently Deputy Dean. His main interest is to dissect the genetic basis of variation in complex traits and apply this information to breeding programs. His research covers traditional livestock species as well as excursions to fish, mice, and plants. The focus of his research includes health traits, such as bone health in laying hens, Lumpy Skin Disease in cattle, and African Swine Fever in pigs.
