Dr. Aroa Suarez-Vega, a CGIL Post-Doctoral Fellow, will present a CGIL Seminar on Friday, November 29th. The seminar will begin at 1:30 PM in room 141 of the Animal Science & Nutrition building. The title of the presentation is: "Identification of Long Non-Coding RNAs Linked to Gastrointestinal Nematode Parasite Host Response in Sheep". Speaker Biography: Dr. Aroa Suarez-Vega has a B.Sc. in Veterinary Science at the University of León, Spain. She completed her M.Sc. and Ph.D. in the Department of Animal Production at the same university where she received the Outstanding Doctoral Award in Health Sciences. The focus of her Ph.D. project was on the detection of the genetic basis of economically important traits in Spanish sheep breeds using genomic tools. During her Ph.D., she improved her skills in bioinformatics and transcriptomics by completing two internships at INRA. In 2018, Aroa started working at the Department of Animal Biosciences, CGIL, as a postdoctoral researcher under the supervision of Dr. Angela Canovas. Her postdoctoral fellowship is part of a Mitacs Accelerate grant in collaboration with Semex Alliance and is focused on leveraging genomic information to better understand the biological effect of major genes on reproduction and health traits in dairy cattle. During her postdoc at CGIL, She has collaborated in other research projects at the Canovas’ Lab such as the OMAFRA project aiming to identify key genes related to parasite resistance in sheep using transcriptomics. In January, Aroa will take on a faculty position as an assistant professor at the University of Leon in Spain at the Department of Animal Science. |
